Trust me... I was a doctor!

You may already know me as I’ve been speaking professionally since 2003 – over 10 years now. Wow that makes me feel old! I’m a native Australian and I’ve recently relocated back to the UK permanently with my husband, Greg and our gorgeous 2-year old son James. And we’re here for the long term as we absolutely love the UK.

(Well, everything apart from the weather…)

You may have seen me deliver my speaker training presentations prior to 2011. That’s because literally thousands of people have attended these trainings over the years.  But then something changed. I felt the calling to become a mum.

Falling pregnant didn’t happen overnight. And because it didn’t happen straight away, we decided to take a step back from the business and focus on our health. And bang! Two months later I discovered I was pregnant!

When James turned two, something shifted once again. We realised we were settled over here, and with requests for our speaker trainings coming into the office every single week, I knew intuitively it was time to get back in the game.

So last year, we freshened up the brand, and decided it was time to return to teaching speaker-training. The response to my return to teaching my flagship, Presentation Secrets, completely blew me away. The server crashed and the first dates sold out in days!

I am now a professional speaker. But I haven’t always been. I started my working life as a medical doctor in Tasmania, Australia before discovering that I really did not love what I was doing. You see, I loved performing and drama- and I loved school. But before long there I realised I was not making much of a difference in the world.

It was at this time I attended my first “seminar”. Until this point I did not even know there was a “seminar industry”. But here were thousands and thousands of people who called themselves “speakers” making money by sharing their passion, making a difference and performing. I was in heaven and I was hooked!

I’ve been doing talks and presentations since 2003 but it wasn’t really until 2005 that I became a full time, focussed professional speaker. It was in that first 12 months as a full time speaker that I discovered something very important:

I know $2 million sounds like a lot. Maybe out of your reach. (at least right now) But it is possible.

You see it took me lots of practice, and a truck load of hard work to figure this stuff out. In those first three years I was on the road for 513 days, on stage for 373 of those, speaking and selling. By the middle of 2007 I had spent over 3544 hours on stage. On three different continents. I managed all this before my 30th birthday.

Now we have James we do live in a nice place, but we own one cheap car between the pair of us.
